Each player is the director of an expedition exploring 'Tikal'. They must search for the secret paths that lead to the temples and precious treasures that have remained hidden for over 1000 years. But they must be plan carefully - temples and treasures can change hands during the game.

Each player receives points during four scoring rounds for each recovered treasure and each temple controlled. The expedition that earns the most points wins the game.

'Tikal' won the prestigious German 'Game of the Year' award in1999.
