'Dover Patrol' is one of the classic
early strategy board games. Originally produced in the 1930's, it remains
popular to this day - although sadly it is no longer in production.
The game is a slightly more complex
version of 'L'attaque', with the objective being to capture your opponent's
flagship, using the variety of pieces at your disposal. The pieces have
differing strength values and capabilities, and key decisions have to be
taken on where to deploy them, and when to attack with them. In your 'navy'
you have battleships, cruisers, destroyers, motor torpedo boats, patrol
vessels, submarines, minesweepers, mines, and even a flying boat! No dice
are involved - to win the game you will need to outwit and out-think your
opponent.
The copy we have for sale (pictured
below) dates from the 1940's, and is in very good condition for it's age.
The box has some storage wear and marking, but is in much better than
average condition for a game of this age. The board and playing pieces have
obviously been used, but are again in better than average condition. The
board does have some writing in pencil on some of the squares, but this does
not affect the game play, and may be removable with a bit of gentle persuasion!
