‘Anti-Monopoly’
is an
updated
version
of the original ‘Monopoly’ board game, invented by Elizabeth
Magie, a Quaker from Atlantic City, over 100 years ago. The game was used
(some say illegally!) as the inspiration for the ‘Monopoly’ game that has
become a worldwide phenomenon.
In Anti-Monopoly players are divided into
two groups (Competitors and Monopolists) at the start of the game. The two
groups of players follow different rules in their quest for money.
The ‘Competitors’
charge fair rents, can
build on any street and can end a ‘Price War’. The ‘Monopolists’ charge high
rents, only build on streets they own, try and restrict the supply of
property, and can go to prison for ‘price fixing’.
The object of the game is to be the richest
Competitor after all monopolists have been bankrupted, or to be the richest
Monopolist after all competitors have been eliminated. Despite playing to
different rules, each side has an equal chance of winning the game.
